History: | The Bush-Holley House, a well-preserved example of Dutch Colonial architecture, is know for its long association with the development of American Impressionism between 1890 and 1920. This major art movement, which has become identified with Connecticut, was centered at this house, the focus of one of the first summer art colonies in the United States. Through its distinguished teachers, the colony spawned a second generation of Impressionist painters, including ones who carried on the artistic tradition on the Bush-Holley House in the 20th century. |
